Therapeutic Interventions

I am trained in various therapeutic interventions for treating a wide range of issues from PTSD to depression to parenting challenges. Although I don't typically use only one intervention or approach with my clients, the interventions described here are some of the most common I employ in helping clients reach their goals.

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapeutic approach designed to help people process and heal from past trauma or distressing experiences. It involves a structured eight-phase process where the therapist guides you through recalling troubling memories while engaging in bilateral stimulation, such as following moving lights or tapping. This process can help reduce the emotional charge associated with the memories, allowing you to reframe them and integrate them in a healthier way. Many people find EMDR effective for overcoming PTSD, anxiety, and other emotional challenges.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a therapeutic approach that focuses on being fully present in the moment, without judgment. It involves paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations in a compassionate and accepting way. In therapy, mindfulness techniques are used to help individuals manage stress, anxiety, depression, and other emotional challenges. By practicing mindfulness, patients can learn to observe their thoughts and emotions without getting overwhelmed by them, fostering a sense of calm and improving emotional regulation. This approach can enhance self-awareness, promote relaxation, and help you develop healthier coping mechanisms.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a goal-oriented therapeutic approach that helps you identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts and behaviors. It focuses on the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and actions, and how these affect your mental well-being. In CBT, you’ll work with your therapist to recognize negative thinking patterns and replace them with more realistic and positive ones. This can help reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, stress, and other mental health concerns. By learning new ways of thinking and reacting, CBT aims to improve your emotional well-being and equip you with practical tools for managing life’s challenges.

CIRCLE OF SECURITY PARENTING

The Circle of Security Parenting program is a relationship-based approach designed to help parents build stronger, more secure connections with their children. It focuses on understanding your child’s emotional needs and how to respond to them in a way that fosters trust and safety. The program teaches parents how to recognize their child’s cues, provide support when needed, and offer the right balance of comfort and independence. By strengthening the parent-child bond, Circle of Security helps improve communication, reduce behavioral issues, and promote emotional well-being for both parent and child. It’s a great tool for parents looking to enhance their parenting skills and create a more secure, nurturing environment for their children.
